Here Comes Trouble

As I was in the store with my boys a few weeks ago Stockton was fascinated by a shirt he saw. "Mom, look at this shirt. It says, 'Here comes trouble!' We should get that for Mason." We all started laughing when Mason piped up and said, "Tums Chubble!" We encouraged him to say it all through the store and laughed every time he did. I didn't like the shirt enough to buy it there but have since found one I liked. It puts a smile on my face to think about. I know I need to remember that smile for the months to come!

Mason is now 18 months old. He is more toddler than baby. He is doing so many cute things and so many naughty little things. Here's a little more about our sunshine.

Y Mason is into EVERYTHING! I feel like all I do is go from room to room cleaning new messes. He gets things out of the cupboards while I cook dinner, he gets things out of the drawers while I do the treadmill, he has started dumping containers of toys instead of nicely playing with one at a time. He climbs on chairs, barstools, tables, counters and most recently, my bed. He turns on water faucets, opens bottles with screwed on lids and likes to dump the contents of those bottles. He really does require constant supervision at this point!

Y He is a terrible eater. He doesn't want to sit in his high chair long enough to eat so we have gotten creative. He loves to sit on his daddy's lap to eat scrambled eggs in the morning. He eats pretty well in the car when he has no choice but to be strapped in. I try to give him some non-messy lunch while he is watching TV at his little picnic table. And, when we go out for a casual lunch with the kids we choose a booth where we can trap him in. When he does eat he likes yogurt, eggs, chicken, Cafe Rio, pizza, cheese, grapes and crackers. He often asks for bananas and oranges but only because he wants to help peel them, not eat them. I have learned that if I sprinkle some cinnamon and sugar on a plate and let him dip his banana in that, he will eat it. Mom-of-the-year award coming my way!

Y Mason is a chatterbox! He will repeat anything we ask him to and is just starting to put words together. In the morning when you get him out of his crib he will say, "See it, daddy." He will hold his hand up to his ear and say, "Hear it, clock?" when the Christmas clock plays music each hour. He says, "Hold you" when he wants to be picked up and he will also shout, "NO, don't" when his brothers are in his face. He says "jink a milk" "I have it" "A catch" to play catch, "strike free" "homerun" and many other little phrases. He STILL shakes his head yes and says "Uh-huh" when you figure out what he wants instead of saying "yes". He can say the word if you ask him to repeat it but chooses "uh-huh" while communicating.

Y Mason takes one great nap a day now, anywhere from 2-3 1/2 hours. He goes to bed at about 9 each night and wakes when the kids do at around 7. He will tell us when he is tired and say, "bee bee, lanket, na-night". He usually is all business and once prayers are said it is straight in his bed, no rocking, no singing. He is going through a little phase where he wakes at about 12:30 in the am. He wants to come to bed with us and being the tired mom I am, I let him. He rolls around between Russell and I and kicks us. Every now and then his little hands will touch parts of my face and sometimes I can feel his stare as he hovers over me wondering why my eyes are closed while his are so wide open! This happens several times a week so we are grateful for the nights when he sleeps all the way through.

Y Mason is a big-time daddy's boy! He loves when his daddy comes home from work. As soon as he hears the garage he goes running. Dad comes in to give me a hug and Mason leans in for the group hug. This is one of his favorite things and I have to admit I really like it too!

Y Some of Mason's favorite things to do are play trains with his brothers, play catch with is dad, hit a baseball and hit other things in the house with his bat, build towers with his stacking blocks, climb on his slide and be outside. He loves to watch Sesame Street now and when the show starts he will name all of the characters as they show them. When he wants to watch Sesame Street he will say, "Big Bird, Elmo". He also really likes Abby. He will watch one whole episode as I do the treadmill in the morning. He is SO good about staying away from the treadmill and letting me get my workout in. I thought he might be too young to understand the importance of staying away but he learned quickly and has been great!

Y Mason had his first play date the other day. Braden was not quite as excited as Mason was but I know if the tables were turned and Mason was at Braden's house he would be crying as well. They eventually warmed up to each other and I look forward to Mason's friends coming over often. He could use some sharing practice. He pretty much gets whatever he wants right now!

Y Mason had the opportunity to meet Santa last week and it went just as I had planned! I have to admit, I HATED Santa when I was a kid so my boys have inherited their dislike from me.

Y Mason loves to gives kisses and hugs and wave goodbye to his brothers and dad as they leave in the mornings. He runs to the door when he hears the garage to see who is home.

Y Mason has become pretty bossy lately. He won't let us sing along to songs at times, he corrects Stockton as he plays the piano (I have no idea where he learned that!) and he yells at the dog to go lay down (another big mystery:)).

Y I was certain he would destroy my Christmas tree but I decorated it as I normally do and hoped he would learn. He has been WONDERFUL! He rarely even goes by it but if he does he says, "mom's pretty".

Y Mason runs me ragged every single day but he also brings a smile to my face. How grateful I am for this sweet little boy!

Fourteen

Today we celebrate Douglas turning 14.

This is my favorite picture from the past year. After a year of hard work and dreaming, Douglas watched his team play in the World Series from the dugout with a broken collar bone. It was a life changing experience for him. He is a much stronger person now than he was a year ago and one of the lessons he learned was that Heavenly Father has a plan for us. It may not be what we plan but he knows us and loves us and things happen for a reason.

Here are a few fun facts about the birthday boy!

Y He would have a shake EVERY day if I let him. This boy likes ice cream.
Y Douglas is very likable. When I sit down with his teachers at SEP conferences and tell them his name, they always say, "Oh, yes, Douglas." Most of them appreciate his sense of humor and participation. There is always one that finds him to be most obnoxious.
Y Grandpa Murry is his best friend.
Y His shoe size is 9 1/2, currently the same as his dad's. He is taller than me and I just bought him his first adult sized coat.
Y Douglas is a hard worker. He is great at helping others and taking care of his priesthood duties.
Y Baseball, baseball, baseball. He just loves it!
Y He is adventurous. He loves roller coasters and thrill rides. However, Disney characters and Santa are a bit frightening to him! He has learned to tolerate them but it has taken years of practice!
Y A mission is an important goal for him. He knows this is what Heavenly Father expects him to do and is willing and excited to do that.
Y He has his Eagle Scout project selected and is in the process of filling out his paperwork. He should have that award by February.
Y Douglas has a pretty even temper. He is very obedient, rarely acts out and when he does, I realize it is probably mild for most kids his age.
Y School comes pretty easy for him. Even though he is smart he really hates to read.
Y Girl-crazy!
Y When he answers the phone he is now mistaken for his dad instead of his mom!
Y He is confident. He has had some challenges this past year but hasn't let them get him down.

Follow your dreams, you can be anything you want to be. Don't let ANYONE tell you otherwise. We love you, Douglas. Happy Birthday!

November Ends

Many noteworthy things have happened in our family in the last few weeks but I just don't seem to find the time to jot them down. Here is a recap:

Pinewood Derby- Not Russell's favorite father/son bonding activity. I rejected his idea to pull out a previously used car of Douglas' and he and Stockton got to work on Stockton's first car. He chose the body style, designed the paint job and had a great time the night of the race. He had a good middle of the pack car and got an award for the fastest looking (clearly, LOOKING is the key word here!).

Report Card Dinner- Both of the boys did a super great job last term so we took them to Chilies to celebrate. We ordered two of the 2 for $20 meals so each of them got to choose an appetizer and a dessert. Although it was a fun family night activity, Russell and I remembered why we really look forward to our Friday night dinners out. Mason is just not the most enjoyable little guy at a restaurant. Practice makes perfect, right?

Blog Book- I took my 2008 entries and edited and published them into a hardbound book for our family to enjoy. I had fun through the process and loved the finished product. I can picture my grandchildren reading from The Orchard Team Huddle and it makes me smile:). If you have a blog you really must do this. My only regret is not getting it in the 12 x 12 size. I could have made the pictures bigger that way. I can't wait to do the same to my 2009 entries!

Finishing Touches- I finally got around to making a valance for Douglas' room. We bought the fabric and curtain rod about 21 months ago, painted his room, got new furniture and never completed the project. It felt good to finally hang it up.

Remodeling- I painted my little main-floor bath that had ancient used hand towels and old thrown-on-the-wall decorations. I never did like it but hadn't gotten around to it yet. Russell put a wall cabinet together for me and I am keeping my eye out for some fun little accents. Oh, I almost forgot the best upgrade of all, new toilet seats throughout the house!

New Moon- I have seen it twice in the theatre and have had the series on my mind. I even started reading Twilight again. There are so many little details in the books that you don't get in the movies. I am being very disciplined and keeping my reading mostly to treadmill time. If I get REALLY skinny in the next few weeks you will know what my motivation was!

Thanksgiving- What a fun week. The boys went camping on Thanksgiving Eve with Grandpa. Russell met them the next morning along with my brothers for the Annual Rabbit Hunt. They made it back just in time to eat and turn on the Cowboys game at 2:00. The women prepared the food and we had a great time eating, visiting and planning our Black Friday strategy. With all of the festivities I only managed to get this one picture of Mason enjoying his lunch.

Black Friday- We started at 5:00 am at Walmart, crazy store! On to JoAnn's where my sister-in-law got her Cricut machine for $88. Target was next, McDonald's for breakfast at 7:30 am and then on to Kohl's, Bath and Body Works, and Famous Footwear. We ended the day with a last minute trip to Toys R Us where we were all disappointed at the lack of stock left. What a fun morning. Every year I wonder why I do it but every year I can't imagine not going. It is exhausting fun with my favorite friends, my sisters and sister-in-laws who might as well be my sisters!

Deck The Halls- I got my big tree up before Thanksgiving, a tradition I started a few years ago. The rest of the decorations came out on Saturday. I love how cozy the house becomes. It was fun to watch Stockton teach Mason how to decorate their tree. Douglas had no part in it. What a Grinch!

Family Pictures- I REALLY wanted to get a real one done in the outdoors but I drug my feet and now the weather has gotten in the way. So, we had my brother-in-law snap a few pictures in our living room and front yard for us after church yesterday. They are pretty amateur but I should be able to get at least one on our Christmas card this year! It is virtually impossible to get all of us looking the same way with somewhat of a smile.

The Holidays are in full swing and I look forward to all of the fun memories our family will make over the next few weeks. Hopefully I will take the time to record them a little better:).

The Fall Slow Down

I seem to be at a loss for words lately. Just a quick update on what we've been up to.

Russell was able to go and get our car from St. George. I was glad to get rid of that stale-cigarette-smoke scented Elantra. I was grateful for the temporary wheels but really do like my big SUV better. It's running like a charm and I am looking forward to 3 years of worry-free transmission! It seems everything is breaking at the same time. I was paying bills the other day and my adding machine died. My Kitchenaid is currently dead and the boys tell me the Playstation is acting up. I guess we will tackle these items one at a time as our money tree has lost all of it's leaves. And did I mention that at some point I need to get braces for Douglas and I just paid for 2 boys to play Jr. Jazz at $57 a pop. Sheesh! I know it is just going to get worse!

Life has slowed drastically from a hectic and exhausting whirlwind to a more relaxed TV watching, cocoa sipping, dark too early pace. I am grateful for the down time. Currently, no baseball for Douglas, once a week practice for Stockton and no basketball quite yet. I am doing well on my meal planning and prep. The house is a little cleaner and the homework is a little less stressful. I am enjoying this calm after the storm. My newest stress is planning family pictures which I hope to take sometime next week providing I can pull a color scheme together and find a sunny day. I really dread family pics but the last REAL one was done 6 years ago. Pathetic, I know.

I don't have my yard cleaned up like I should but we did get the garage to a sparkling clean state last weekend and I have managed to get a few things done out there. I was out long enough to get these darling pictures of Mason! Of course, he wouldn't look at me without grabbing the camera and I only had a shovel for him to rake with but cute pics, nonetheless:). And I must mention that I LOVE this sweatshirt he is wearing. It was Stockton's and then my sister's 2 boys and now back to Mace. It is just the right baggy and just the right cozy and so super cute on a short little guy in jeans!

I am loving the leaves, enjoying my fall decorations and looking forward to Thanksgiving. So far no swine flu (knock on wood) but the boys should all get vaccinated by my pediatrician next week. Oh, I almost forgot, just a few days ago I got large bags of Halloween candy for $2.99. We are talking 100 fun sized candy bars and the good ones at that...Hersheys chocolate, Kit Kat, Whoppers and Reeses. Life is good right now:).

A Few Tricks, A Few Treats

Treat: Helping with Stockton's school party. I can't imagine not being there. My assignment-nachos and a pumpkin toss game. Mason ran around the gym and was MORE than helpful!

Trick: I was so busy entertaining Mason and 34 fourth graders that I didn't take a single picture of Stockton's costume. He dressed as a Dallas Cowboy fan with a jersey and some shorts. His face was painted half blue and half white with stars. I figured I would get a picture on Halloween night but he changed costumes on me.

Treat: Friday off of school. We jumped in the car late Thursday afternoon and headed to St. George for the last baseball games of the year. Our friend Jake accompanied us.

Trick: We left after Mason's nap but not to fear...we had our Teletubbie DVD. As soon as the moment was right we turned it on. Mason said "no" and didn't watch any of it. He chose to scream the last half hour of the trip instead. Thursday night was not filled with peaceful slumber. Mason wasn't certain he was happy with his new accommodations.

Treat: We spent the weekend with our friends, The Thompsons. We moved into Walnut View Circle the same weekend in 1993. They have a son Douglas' age, a son Stockton's age and 3 other cute kids. We love being with them.

Trick: The weather was unseasonably cold for St. George. Our first game was in Hurricane at 10:00 am. We could see our breath. The field was not Mason friendly at all! The spectator area was nothing but dirt, we had a port-a-potty and there was a smelly horse and cow watching the game right along with us!

Treat: We won the first game and headed to Wendy's for some lunch. The food was tasty and Mason snuggled into me and fell asleep right there in the restaurant. He NEVER does that! We headed back to the field for game 2.

Trick: The car started doing some funny stuff in the mile back to the game. When the gas pedal was pressed, it would take awhile for the car to accelerate. Suddenly, the car jolted and stayed put. Russell shifted to 1st gear and it started forward, shifted to 2nd to a screaching horrible sound and back to drive where nothing would work. This couldn't be good. We crawled up the hill in 1st gear, parked and pulled out the owners manual. Transmission fluid, check. Restart the car, check. Still not working.

Treat: We won the second game and managed to get the car back to St. George in 3rd gear. Luckily, we weren't completely stranded. We went on a double date to Texas Roadhouse with our friends and EVERYONE slept really well Friday night. The Thompson's let us use their car the next day. We dropped ours off at the Chevy dealership.

Trick: The dealership confirmed our fear when they called to inform us that the transmission was toast. We could either have it rebuilt for $2300 with a 12 month warranty and a chance the car would be done by Sunday or put in a whole new one for $2800 and a 3 year warranty but it would not be done until Thursday. We opted for the new one.

Treat: We enjoyed the most beautiful sunny weather, Mason had a playground and grass and we beat the Horns. We have NEVER beaten the Horns. It was quite a victory for us. Douglas hit lights out with one of his better ones being a ground-rule-double (it bounced over the fence). We had so much fun watching. Our second game immediately followed where our buddy Jake hit one over the fence followed by Douglas' first home run on a regulation field (90 ft. bases)! It looks like that collar bone of his is working just fine. I was one giddy mom! It was fun to watch Jake and Douglas hit them the same game. We ended pool play 4-0 and had a yummy lunch at Marv's.

Trick or Treat Night: I was so excited to take Mason trick or treating. He looked so cute in his Superman costume. It was all a little confusing to him. He would get a treat in his bucket and want to open it immediately. He would savor his treat until the next door where he would hand me his old treat to start on his new one. After a few doors, he would knock and say, "Canny"! He almost got the hang of passing out the treats as well. Stockton went unattended by parents for the first time ever. He was thrilled that he had my cell phone in his pocket and made sure to check in with everyone he could find in my address book. Douglas chose not to trick or treat but to scare. Him and Jake put masks on and tried to frighten the children but they weren't too good at it. The next day, when all of the kids were chowing down on yummy goodness I think he regretted his decision just a tad.

Mason kept talking to the boys while they were trying to look like statues.

Jake

Tricky: We headed to St. George in a Denali with 6 passengers. We were being offered an Elantra to get home. Figuring out how to get all of our bodies, gear and our car back to Salt Lake was a bit of a challenge. We had so many nice people helping us. One team mate hauled home the baseball bags, one took 2 of the boys and we ended up with a tiny little car, no DVD player for the drive home. Russell will have to drive the rental car back sometime this week and pick up our newly renovated Yukon. What a pain!

Treat: We won the semi final game and made it to the Championship game. Once again, beautiful, sunny weather.

Trick: We brought home a stinkin Runner's Up trophy. I am so tired of being the runner up! It was a great game against a totally stacked team that they put together just for this tournament. We were the underdogs from the get go but 8-10 was a very respectable score. I would have preferred to lose the first game if we weren't going to win it all just to get an earlier start on our journey home. We pulled out of St. George at 6:45 pm and arrived home at 11:00 pm.

Treat: Mason slept the whole way. He kept sleeping all night long and didn't wake until 6:oo the next morning. All made it home safe and well. Things could have been much worse. We could have been stranded in Beaver on the way down. I am sick about the $3000. I can think of 500 things I would rather spend the money on but we are truly blessed and this is nothing in the big scheme of things. It was, for the most part, a wonderful Halloween weekend!

Taking Charge

It seems to me I have spent the past year and a half running faster than I have had the strength. Life is busy, babies are hard, baseball is fun but VERY time consuming, and it has taken a toll on me, our home and ultimately, our family. I have been saying to myself, "It will get easier when Mason is a little older." Well, now he climbs up bar stools, turns on water faucets, makes MONSTER messes. Some things are easier but many are much harder. "It will slow down when baseball season is over." It seems baseball season is never over and basketball follows baseball and Young Men's are on Thursday nights and Cub Scouts are on Friday afternoons. Piano is on Thursday and homework is every day of the week. I have had my epiphany and realize that this is just normal life at this time and I had better conquer it rather than letting it get the best of me. As I have pondered what I need to do to be a better Mom, Wife, Homemaker, Friend and Daughter of God I have had some impressions that I know are inspired.

1) Get to the temple much, much more. This is so hard right now. It shouldn't be but it is. I used to go while my kids were in school. Now I need to find a sitter for Mason. He naps in the middle of the day. He is tired and harder at night. There is not a great time to go but this needs to be a priority. I have a son that needs to be going regularly as well. I know the temple has and will bring peace into my life. What a blessing is it to have so many so close. I need to use them more.

2) Read the scriptures and conference talks. This goes along with attending the temple. I need the strength that comes from daily, spiritual enlightenment. In January I set a goal to read the Ensign from cover to cover each month. I did well for a few months and then faltered. I am ready to recommit. Our Heavenly Father has not left us alone. He has given us all kinds of guidance if we will seek after it. Prayer is a given.

3) Fulfill my church calling. It took me a few months to get organized after being called to be the Relief Society secretary. We all felt a little overwhelmed but things are coming, I am making the black binder mine and figuring out how to go about doing what it is I should be doing. Great joy can come from serving in the church.

4) Exercise. I am really good at this one. I know I feel better when I have gone for a nice sunny walk. It is too cold now and I need to learn to adapt to my indoor exercise plan. Mason is learning to stay clear of the treadmill. I am learning to make it through a work out while watching Barney or Sesame Street. I am too nervous to take him to the gym daycare during the germy season so we will continue to figure out how to work together on this one. Hopefully I can come up with the right combination of toys, treats and shows to entertain a little toddler for 45 minutes a day.

5) Me time. I need this. When Douglas was a baby I would faithfully put him down for a nap, pull out my cross-stitch, turn on Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman and recharge. I was so good at it. I had one little boy. Now I have 3. I volunteer at the school, I visit an aging Grandmother in a nursing home, I have twice the laundry and 3 times the responsibilities and my hobbies have gone out the door. If I am more organized I can squeeze a little bit of that cross-stitch time back in. If I am creative I can find time to read a good book. A little bit of me time = a happy mom so I need to use my time more wisely.

6) Date Night. I can't live without this. Russell and I have grown closer together by doing this faithfully this past year. Many dates we were accompanied by Mason. He was so young, I was so nervous. Now I have two fully capable boys to help care for him a few hours a week. We have been leaving him home and how wonderful it is. It is okay to share date night with friends on occasion but not too often. Couples need to be alone, to reconnect, to talk without interruption, to court. Marriage takes constant effort. Too many of them get thrown to the side. Life will pull you apart if you let it or it will bind you closer together. I choose closeness.

7) Hang that dinner list back on the fridge. I like to cook. I am even good at it but for some reason dinner is a big cause of stress lately. I need to get back to the routine that works for me. I will make a list of menu items to prepare. I have done this weekly at times or sometimes even monthly. Make sure you have all of the ingredients available for those meals. Keep an on-going shopping list so you don't forget things as you run out. Look for ways to consolidate, cook 2 lbs of hamburger one night instead of 1. Grill some extra chicken breasts and chop them up for later. Make a double batch of pizza sauce and freeze half. Having a plan really eliminates the stress. Going to the store less saves time. Eating at home more saves money and sitting at the table together saves families. I can enjoy this responsibility again if I get more organized.

8) And speaking of getting organized, this house needs a good overhaul. I am drafting a To-List to make my house feel more like a home. That I will save for a future post!

Anything worth having is going to take work. My family is so important to me and I feel like now is the time to give 110%. No more flying by the seat of my pants, no more going through the motions. Now is my time to be the best I can. I want this family with me forever and that means a lot of hard work now. Time to pull my shirt sleeves up and dig in!

A Really Long Travel Log

We are HUGE Disneyland fans. We like to get there twice a year but usually get there at least once. It had been 18 months since the last time we went and I was pregnant at that so even longer since I could really enjoy all of the rides. We were MORE than excited to go.

I knew it would be tough with Mason. He is not a good sleeper outside his crib. He doesn't sit still for long and he is all over the place. Nevertheless, I was prepared to have the time of our lives and for the most part we did!

The week started off with a short little plane ride from SLC to John Wayne Airport. We usually do LAX since it is cheaper but we opted for SNA this time. I loved it. The rental car was right at the airport. No shuttle, no hassle. It was wonderful. Mason was wiggly and didn't nap as he should have but still okay. The older boys are pros by now and the whole thing was really not too stressful.

Just a few minutes after leaving the airport we were to our hotel but it was too soon to check in. We found a McDonald's for some cheap lunch and then headed to the Portofino Inn. I do like this hotel. It is within walking distance of the park, there is a 7-11 right across the street and the rooms are equiped with a king size bed for mom and dad and bunkbeds for the boys. There is also a sofa sleeper and we had then send a crib up for Mace. French doors divide the two living quarters and each side has it's own TV. It is a reasonable price for a decent and functional room. And, even more important, you access your room from an inside hallway. I am a BIG fan of the inside hallway, NOT a big fan of the outside doors.

A must when you start any vacation is to stock the room with the food essentials. Snacks, breakfast items, beverages. Douglas accompanied me to the grocery store while Dad and the others stayed behind for a Mason nap. $120.00 later we were set with supplies to last the week...breakfast daily, lunch packed into the park and bedtime snacks. We set a budget of $100 per day for food. Grocery money came off the top of that so that left us with approx. $80 per day. We told the kids of our budget so they could learn:

1) How very expensive it is to take a trip and they really needed to appreciate the opportunity they had to be there.

2) How to budget out the day. If they wanted something fancy for dinner, we would have to refrain from treats in the park. By making smart choices, they were even able to eat dinner at the Cheesecake Factory and have dessert to go. Winchells for breakfast one morning is always a MUST! Russell and I have fond memories of Winchells back in the day.

Later that night we all went to the Athletics/Angels baseball game. It was SO hot but luckily our seats were in the shade. What a fun stadium. The boys loved getting a birds eye view of the players warming up in the bull pen. Mason fell and bonked his head to start the trip with a nice raspberry but we had a lot of fun. It was a high scoring game with fireworks expoding each time the Angels hit a homerun. We left a little early to avoid a traffic jam, the Angels lost but it was a great night. Russell and Douglas even went to another game later in the week, the Rangers/Angels, while I stayed back to swim with the other two.

The next 5 days were filled with Disneyland. We have only spent 5 days there one other time and loved it. There is so much to see and do that we could have spent 6. Some of the highlights include:

*Riding the canoes. Who knew they were only open on the weekends? Okay, so we didn't really LOVE them but it was fun to do something new. We also rode the teacups (everyone but Russell) which we never do. Some of us get a little motion sick but I decided you couldn't go to Disneyland and not ride the teacups, headache or not!

*The new Toy Story Ride. LOVED IT! With no fast pass and a 30 minute wait we were only able to ride 4 times but would have done more. It was so fun.

*Watching Mason take everything in. Watching Douglas want to take Mason on rides that were previously LAME. Listening to Mason say "Yide!"

*Halloween decorations. I loved them the most. We also love how the Haunted Mansion is transformed into The Nightmare Before Christmas. The firework show was awesome. We watched one night from Small World and another night from Main Street. AMAZING!

*Toon Town. So many cute places to take pictures. So many things to touch. Such a fun concept. You can go about it leisurely when you have a 5 day pass. Notice the look of terror on Stockton's face. My kids don't love the characters. No worries about long autograph lines in this family!

*ESPN Zone. This is a MUST on our vacation. Who doesn't want to sit and enjoy some good food in front of dozens of TV screens filled with every sport imaginable followed by some arcade fun?

*Watching Stockton go from a pathetic little score to his best ever at the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blaster. He was so discouraged until Russell and I took a few rides showing him all the best spots to hit. He got a record 193,000 points, tried to email his picture to his dad and mom failed to give him the right address. In years past Russell and I drug the kids on this ride over and over and this year the kids drug us! Stockton really was LOVING everything about our trip. He wanted to close the park every night. He was so much fun.

*The water parade in California adventure. The older boys protested but I made them watch and I know they ended up having fun. All of the floats had squirt guns that shot the crowd. I love the Disney parades.

There was a little tear in my eye the day we danced out of Disneyland for the last time. Even though it can be an exhausting vacation it is one our family really enjoys. We've added two new baseballs to our collection, one from the Angel's game and one from Disneyland 2009. I am afraid it will be too long before we make it back. We have decided to wait about 18 more months before we go again. Mason needs to be a little more patient in line and better at sleeping somewhere other than his bed. At least we have a few new things to look forward to, a water/light show starting next spring and a Little Mermaid ride. I can't wait!
