Twelve 🎈

We like to get in as much fun as we can when it comes to birthday time so it is safe to say that this was birthday week!  Cousins are Mason's favorite people in the world so we had to have a cousin celebration at Altitude Trampoline Park!

Mason has a few friends that have season passes to Lagoon so we decided to make a day of it.  We had pizza Lunchables, Dot's pretzels, Mountain Dew and homemade Red Velvet oreo cookies.

And now to the actual birthday day!  Our morning started off with Butterscoth Pull Aparts.  Mason's team had games in Spanish Fork so we were gone for most of the day.  I thought Taco Bell seeds might be a fun flavor for the birthday boy to try but it turns out they were disgusting 🤢.

Mason requested baseball sugar cookies to share with his team. I tried to talk him out of it so we could just buy a treat but he insisted.  I secretly am happy he loves my homemade stuff so much but I sure did a lot of treat baking this week!

Mason had a super hard time figuring out what he wanted for his birthday.  He was sure he wanted a new bike or an Apple Watch.  I talked him into going shopping and looking around.  So after our games, we stopped at Scheel's.  He did not find anything he had to have.  He settled on the Apple Watch.  Once we got it and went in to the At&T store to get it set up, we realized we needed to add a phone line for him and a free phone came with the new line.  So, he ended up with a watch and an Iphone 8.  I had no intention of getting him a phone yet but the parent controls are so good I felt like he could get started.  Needless to say, he was one excited kid!  Waiting a week for his phone to arrive in the mail was agonizing. 
Many restaurants are still closed for inside dining but we were so happy to find Cafe Rio's dining room was open.  We couldn't get drink refills but it felt a little bit normal.  Mason likes to get a sweet pork salad with no beans, no pico and no guacamole.

I love this kid so much!  He keeps me young and makes me feel old all at the same time.  He is 4' 10" (40th percentile) and 96 lbs (60th percentile).  Some of his favorites include: peanut butter bars, Five Guys, making videos mostly about trampoline and scooter tricks, watching YouTube, chips, playing Zelda on the Nintendo Switch, playing games on his phone, Chick-Fil-A, playing baseball, hanging out with friends, Instant Breakfast banana protein shakes, Mountain Dew and being with his family.

He is a nervous kid.  Things stress him out.  I am so proud of him for working so hard each day to overcome his challenges.  The last 3 months of quarantine, uncertainty and home school have not been easy but he has risen to the occasion.  He gets a little lonely being the only kid at home but enjoys the perks that come with it as well.  

Here are Mason's own words from an assignment from school.  It pretty much sums him up!

If I had found a hidden treasure in my garden what I would want inside is all of my favorite baseball players to high five me.  I really love video games so I would also want all of the nintendo switch games out there with pro controllers.  I want a new baseball bat and a pair of my custom Nike shoes which look awesome.  I also would want a card that says from the owner of Chick-fil-a that I get to eat there for free every time I go.  And I would like to find $100,000,000 so I could buy a mansion with a huge backyard with batting cages, Basketball courts and a big pool.  That is what i would do if I found a treasure in my garden.

I have never been a runner. I have grown up around runners. My dad has run 7 or 8 marathons. My mom has run 2. My husband ran one 7 years ago. I have always cheered from the sidelines and wondered why in the world anyone would EVER do something like that. It is just plain ridiculous. In my quest to get rid of the after math of 2 pregnancies in a years time I decided to step my workouts up a bit. I am a really good walker. I would much rather walk 4 miles than run 1 but I needed to burn more calories. So, running it was. I decided if I mostly walked with some intermittent running that would help. Old Enough For the Temple!

Mason and I have been looking forward to going to the temple for a long time.  It is one of my favorite places and there is nothing better than going with your kids.  Mason was ordained a Deacon on January 5th and received his temple recommend  so he could do baptisms and confirmations. We checked Mason out of school a little early on January 9th and went before lunch. We wanted to be together as a family so we invited Douglas and Daisha, Amelia and Grandma Orchard.  That made it special.  It was snowing when we came out so Grandma insisted on staying under the awning.  She didn't even know she was photo bombing! 😂 And to make it even more special, we took family names.  A temple sealer told me to think about families and bringing families to the temple.  I had never thought of that.  I always just grabbed whatever names were next in my card file but we purposefully put together 2 different families to baptize that da...

Arizona

Our love of baseball has taken us on some of our coolest family vacations.  Last week, Douglas' team played in the Triple Crown Spring Training tournament.  We decided to cash in our sky miles so all of us could go cheer him on.  A toddler on my lap for a 2 hour flight was a little more enticing than enduring a 12 hour roadtrip, each way.  Douglas wasn't too sad that he missed the team travel in a 16 passenger van.  Can you imagine it?  8 teenage boys...together...lauging....texting...stinking.  No thanks!  His coaches are saints! As seems to always be the case, travel day was hectic.  Watching our family go through airport security must be somewhat entertaining.  There are the Ipods, the belts, the shoes, the stroller, the laptop, the portable DVD player, the camera, the sippy cup, the blanket....followed by the howls of a little boy who got his fingers pinched when the stroller collapsed on him as we tried to contain him to...
