Fourteen Months

I don't really consider 14 months a "real" baby milestone but I couldn't let another day go by without recording some of the way cute things Mason has learned. Besides, I got his should-have-been-1-yr.-old-but-was-more-like-14-mo.-old pictures back and I just had to show my little cutie off!
Mason will try to say ANYTHING! His newest favorite words are "lawn mow, schwim shoot (swim suit), jink (drink), beebee (binky), shoes, sweep, git (get it), bubble and eight. He really is a chatterbox and we are often surprised by the things he can tell us.

He is FASCINATED with lawn mowers. We pass them on the trail each Monday morning. We watch the neighbor's yard get mowed each Friday morning, we go to Grandpa's to mow each Thursday morning and he talks about them every other day of the week. A "lawn mow" is any outdoor piece of equipment that makes noise, a blower, edger, 4 wheeler. He just can't get enough.

He is a BINKY boy. When he wakes from his nap he must bring every binky from his crib, one in his mouth and as many as he can fit in his hands. He also loves his blanket.

His hobbies include blowing bubbles, being outside, sweeping, vacuuming, reading books, going on walks, building towers with stacking blocks and knocking them over, opening the microwave door after something "beeps", following his brothers around the house and jamming to their music. His current faves: Boom Boom Pow by the Black Eyed Peas and That's Not My NAME by the Ting Tings. He loves to shout, "my name"!

When it comes to food he has branched out a bit. He LOVES "nacks" (fruit snacks), "melyo's" (marshmallows), chicken, corn dogs on a stick ( I know, pretty dangerous but he really does well with them), cantaloupe, watermelon, "bips" (chips), grapes, milk, tomatoes, cheese, and "gurt" (yogurt). He has never really liked bread and still doesn't. Occassionally, he will eat a bit of toast.
We have practiced and begged to get him to go down the stairs backward but he insists on doing it like we all do. It works out okay on my case that has railing rungs all the way down but it doesn't work out so well on other stairs. For such a smart little guy he sure is stair challenged!

His latest and not-so-greatest, a shrill little scream each time the dog comes near. It gets a little old all day long. He likes Maggie, he is just afraid she will take the food he is carting around in his hands. He has decided to scream at her whether he has food or not. He also tries this during church when we won't let him past the end of the bench or when you take something away from him that he is sure he must have. It really is a minor little flaw in his otherwise sunshiny little demeanor.

Just look at this little guy! He is simply irresistible and brings us so much joy.Y

We love him too. I guess we feel like he's partly ours since we sit so close to "your bench" on Sundays.

He's a really beautiful boy, and so cute in his own way, yet familiar looking. I'm glad you got him here. What a blessing!

What an adorable kid. And such a talker! Wyatt is a big fan of "Boom Boom Pow" too. As a matter of fact, I just caught him singing, "The wheels on the bus go boom boom pow." Glad I'm not the only mom whose toddler listens to the Black Eyed Peas :-).

On Top of the World

I have never been a runner. I have grown up around runners. My dad has run 7 or 8 marathons. My mom has run 2. My husband ran one 7 years ago. I have always cheered from the sidelines and wondered why in the world anyone would EVER do something like that. It is just plain ridiculous. In my quest to get rid of the after math of 2 pregnancies in a years time I decided to step my workouts up a bit. I am a really good walker. I would much rather walk 4 miles than run 1 but I needed to burn more calories. So, running it was. I decided if I mostly walked with some intermittent running that would help. I started out running the downhill portions of my 2 mile loop. Pretty soon I would walk my 2 miles, put Mason down for a nap and run a few loops in the park. About a month ago, Russell challenged me to run the full 2 miles. He pushed the baby stroller while we ran. I was not very conversational , but I did it! I was so proud of myself. I incorporated that 2 mile run into my wor...

Old Enough For the Temple!

Mason and I have been looking forward to going to the temple for a long time.  It is one of my favorite places and there is nothing better than going with your kids.  Mason was ordained a Deacon on January 5th and received his temple recommend  so he could do baptisms and confirmations. We checked Mason out of school a little early on January 9th and went before lunch. We wanted to be together as a family so we invited Douglas and Daisha, Amelia and Grandma Orchard.  That made it special.  It was snowing when we came out so Grandma insisted on staying under the awning.  She didn't even know she was photo bombing! 😂 And to make it even more special, we took family names.  A temple sealer told me to think about families and bringing families to the temple.  I had never thought of that.  I always just grabbed whatever names were next in my card file but we purposefully put together 2 different families to baptize that da...

Arizona

Our love of baseball has taken us on some of our coolest family vacations.  Last week, Douglas' team played in the Triple Crown Spring Training tournament.  We decided to cash in our sky miles so all of us could go cheer him on.  A toddler on my lap for a 2 hour flight was a little more enticing than enduring a 12 hour roadtrip, each way.  Douglas wasn't too sad that he missed the team travel in a 16 passenger van.  Can you imagine it?  8 teenage boys...together...lauging....texting...stinking.  No thanks!  His coaches are saints! As seems to always be the case, travel day was hectic.  Watching our family go through airport security must be somewhat entertaining.  There are the Ipods, the belts, the shoes, the stroller, the laptop, the portable DVD player, the camera, the sippy cup, the blanket....followed by the howls of a little boy who got his fingers pinched when the stroller collapsed on him as we tried to contain him to...
