My Ginormous Project

I have lived in my house now for a little over 10 years.  When I originally selected the lights I was so overwhelmed that I pretty much just threw the cheapest things in that I could.  I figured we could change them out a little at a time once I knew for sure what I wanted.  That has been the case as Russell has replaced almost all of the main floor lighting.  But, the ones that bothered me the most happened to be hanging in a most precarious spot over my stairs.  I FINALLY convinced Russell to replace them and was so excited that I didn't even take the time to snap a picture of the old ones.  Just picture some glass-type awful looking chandelier that belongs somewhere other than my house!  It took a Little Giant to conform to the stairs while my brother-in-law stood on a pretty tall A-frame.  Such team work!

To go along with the new lights and the borrowed ladders I figured we may as well paint.  I have looked up to the top of that daunting wall many times (without an official measurement we guessed it was at least 22 feet high) wondering just how I was going to go about it.  The only thing left to do was jump in and see if it could be done!  It took a lot of creativity, ingenuity, courage and patience but I learned it could be done.

Russell was my stage crew.  He maneuvered the 4 different ladders required to reach all of the tough spots.  I was painting a super tall wall on one side with the same super tall wall on the other side only with stairs right next to it.  Then there was the window that I could access easily on the side free of stairs but it was tricky on the other side where my only spot to place a ladder was on the stairs!  You see why I called this my ginormous project.  I don't think I will be crazy enough to do it again but I am so happy I did it!

You can't really tell how scary it was to be at the top of that ladder!  The rolling motion made it wobbly and my whole body was pretty sore the next day from how tense I was while up there!

The job would have gone much faster without the help of my little one but such is my life these days!

And now for the finished product.  Drumroll please!!

I LOVE it!  It feels so warm and cozy and freshly painted and newly illuminated!  I think I will take the new color through the upstairs hallway, into the living room and down the stairs to the basement.  I just need to take a little breather before I jump in again.  One thing I know for sure...the hardest part is done!

Beautiful! And as one who is intimately acquainted with your house's layout . . . holy cow, I can't believe you climbed all the way up there! Way to go. That's commitment to design.

You are very much braver than I am. I can't even stand on the 2nd step of a ladder without freaking out. There would be no way something like that would ever get done in my house unless I hired it out. You have my admiration! It looks great!

On Top of the World

I have never been a runner. I have grown up around runners. My dad has run 7 or 8 marathons. My mom has run 2. My husband ran one 7 years ago. I have always cheered from the sidelines and wondered why in the world anyone would EVER do something like that. It is just plain ridiculous. In my quest to get rid of the after math of 2 pregnancies in a years time I decided to step my workouts up a bit. I am a really good walker. I would much rather walk 4 miles than run 1 but I needed to burn more calories. So, running it was. I decided if I mostly walked with some intermittent running that would help. I started out running the downhill portions of my 2 mile loop. Pretty soon I would walk my 2 miles, put Mason down for a nap and run a few loops in the park. About a month ago, Russell challenged me to run the full 2 miles. He pushed the baby stroller while we ran. I was not very conversational , but I did it! I was so proud of myself. I incorporated that 2 mile run into my wor...

Family Pictures

These are the photos that lovingly adorn my entry way welcoming the world to our home. Stockton was 3, Douglas was 7 and Russell and I were somewhat younger than we are now. For pretty obvious reasons it was time to get a new picture on the wall.  I REALLY hate the whole process of family stress  pictures.  Everyone needs recent haircuts, clothes need to be clean and somewhat matching.  A location needs to be chosen, a poor sucker has to accompany us to snap the shots, no runny noses or cold sores can be present, Mason must be happy, Stockton must be agreeable and Douglas and Russell must be supportive.  So, over the weekend I forced my family to humor me and get this HUGE feat over with.  I am pretty happy with the results. Of course, for every good shot there are about 10 not so good ones!  You try and make a toddler hold still and smile nice! My nephew, Jordan, asked his mom why I got to be in charge.  I told him i...

Arizona

Our love of baseball has taken us on some of our coolest family vacations.  Last week, Douglas' team played in the Triple Crown Spring Training tournament.  We decided to cash in our sky miles so all of us could go cheer him on.  A toddler on my lap for a 2 hour flight was a little more enticing than enduring a 12 hour roadtrip, each way.  Douglas wasn't too sad that he missed the team travel in a 16 passenger van.  Can you imagine it?  8 teenage boys...together...lauging....texting...stinking.  No thanks!  His coaches are saints! As seems to always be the case, travel day was hectic.  Watching our family go through airport security must be somewhat entertaining.  There are the Ipods, the belts, the shoes, the stroller, the laptop, the portable DVD player, the camera, the sippy cup, the blanket....followed by the howls of a little boy who got his fingers pinched when the stroller collapsed on him as we tried to contain him to...
