Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving starts on the Monday before when the big living room tree goes up.  I like to keep all of my fall stuff out but get that one little project out of the way.  It makes it not quite so overwhelming when it is time to put all of the decorations up and it adds an extra festive feel to our holidays.  I know some complain that Thanksgiving is overlooked but I really do believe it is the "holidays" and the two go hand and hand.  We show gratitude and we worship the Savior.  It's a perfect combination.  This is my 3rd year putting up my "new" tree.  Prior to that, I had the very same decorations for 15+ years.  I like to get my money's worth but I am really enjoying the change from gold to silver and the addition of the blue.  Truth be told, some of those red ornaments are from my previous tree which makes them VERY old:).

Our assignment was relish tray (which includes a skewered turkey per Mason's request), cookie pies and deviled eggs.  I asked Amelia if she wanted eggs or turkey.  She and Mason took the turkey.  Dad and I took the eggs.

Kelly is always in charge of rolls because she is the best at it!

The house is always full on Thanksgiving so there are extra tables set up.  Mason snagged a prime spot!  Gas station drinks are always a tradition not only for our family but for my siblings as well.  You will see lots of Big Swigs in the dinner pictures:)

My cousin Mike with his girlfriend Amy, his daughter Justice and her boyfriend Zach.  Mike always joins us for Thanksgiving and we are grateful for him.

This must be the FUN table!  Douglas and Daisha brought green bean casserole, Dallas and Riza make a delicious fruit salad and are also in charge of mashed potatoes.
Dinner always revolves around the Cowboys game.  They play at 2:30 each year so we like to pray at 2:00 so we can cheer our team on.  It is always fun when they actually pull out a win for the special day!

Ben and Riza are always so good to help with dishes!
Cute cousins doing more playing than eating.

Grandma and Grandpa really know how to take care of us.  The food is always delicious and we love spending the day with them!

The day after Thanksgiving, Kelly and I go black Friday shopping.  I got myself this $10 sweatshirt.  I love it.  And, one last shot of Thanksgiving and Christmas together.  On to Christmas!

Thanksgiving is such an amazing day but this year I was missing Stockton.  It is his very favorite holiday and I thought he would be a little homesick.  I prayed for him often that day to feel our love and be grateful for his circumstance.  It turns out, he did not get invited to eat dinner with anyone and it was a big bummer of a day for him.  My mom heart knew he would need a little pick me up this week so just prior to Thanksgiving I sent him a little care package from Amazon UK with chicken noodle soup, vinegar chips and single served mac and cheese.  It wasn't Thanksgiving but it was love and he really enjoyed it.

Hello everyone I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and a good week. I'm not gonna lie this week was right up there with my first week in the field as far as struggles and difficulties. It didn't start off terrible but by the end of the week I was really having a rough time.

Thursday: Not gonna lie today was really difficult. I prayed hard this morning that a miracle would happen and that someone would invite us over for thanksgiving, but unfortunately it wasn't the Lord's will. I was especially sad when I found out every other companionship of missionaries in our zone had a good thanksgiving meal. So me and Elder Stoddard had to think of the closest thing we could have to a thanksgiving meal that wouldn't take too much preparation and that ended up being KFC. So we got some chicken for lunch and then we bought a bunch of chocolate and stuff to have later that night. We really worked hard today and spent almost 6 hours talking to people on the street with no luck. Thankfully just before we were going to head back home we found us one person who we are meeting on next Thursday. Also it was mutual tonight and they had a nerf war and invited us to come so we were able to end the day off with a little bit of fun. Although this was definitely the worst thanksgiving i have. Thankfully only one more left and I don't think it can be any worse.

On Top of the World

I have never been a runner. I have grown up around runners. My dad has run 7 or 8 marathons. My mom has run 2. My husband ran one 7 years ago. I have always cheered from the sidelines and wondered why in the world anyone would EVER do something like that. It is just plain ridiculous. In my quest to get rid of the after math of 2 pregnancies in a years time I decided to step my workouts up a bit. I am a really good walker. I would much rather walk 4 miles than run 1 but I needed to burn more calories. So, running it was. I decided if I mostly walked with some intermittent running that would help. I started out running the downhill portions of my 2 mile loop. Pretty soon I would walk my 2 miles, put Mason down for a nap and run a few loops in the park. About a month ago, Russell challenged me to run the full 2 miles. He pushed the baby stroller while we ran. I was not very conversational , but I did it! I was so proud of myself. I incorporated that 2 mile run into my wor...

Family Pictures

These are the photos that lovingly adorn my entry way welcoming the world to our home. Stockton was 3, Douglas was 7 and Russell and I were somewhat younger than we are now. For pretty obvious reasons it was time to get a new picture on the wall.  I REALLY hate the whole process of family stress  pictures.  Everyone needs recent haircuts, clothes need to be clean and somewhat matching.  A location needs to be chosen, a poor sucker has to accompany us to snap the shots, no runny noses or cold sores can be present, Mason must be happy, Stockton must be agreeable and Douglas and Russell must be supportive.  So, over the weekend I forced my family to humor me and get this HUGE feat over with.  I am pretty happy with the results. Of course, for every good shot there are about 10 not so good ones!  You try and make a toddler hold still and smile nice! My nephew, Jordan, asked his mom why I got to be in charge.  I told him i...

Arizona

Our love of baseball has taken us on some of our coolest family vacations.  Last week, Douglas' team played in the Triple Crown Spring Training tournament.  We decided to cash in our sky miles so all of us could go cheer him on.  A toddler on my lap for a 2 hour flight was a little more enticing than enduring a 12 hour roadtrip, each way.  Douglas wasn't too sad that he missed the team travel in a 16 passenger van.  Can you imagine it?  8 teenage boys...together...lauging....texting...stinking.  No thanks!  His coaches are saints! As seems to always be the case, travel day was hectic.  Watching our family go through airport security must be somewhat entertaining.  There are the Ipods, the belts, the shoes, the stroller, the laptop, the portable DVD player, the camera, the sippy cup, the blanket....followed by the howls of a little boy who got his fingers pinched when the stroller collapsed on him as we tried to contain him to...
