Bases Loaded

Bases loaded, Wilson on third, a few shoulder circles with bat in tow and Stockton strategically places his toe in the dirt. With a side to side motion he plants his feet just inches from the plate. "Knock your cousin in," yells mom.  A few wiggles of the bat and the first pitch is thrown, ball.  Next pitch, strike.  "That's the one you want to hit," (mom has a very hard time keeping quiet during the game!).  One more pitch and CRACK.  It's going, it's going, it's over the left fielder's head.  It rolls to the fence!  Stockton is rounding second, he is rounding third. "Go Stockton, GO!" His lightening speed is no match for the Cubs as he safely slides into home, his first ever HOMERUN which also happens to be a Grand Slam.    Grinning so hard it must have hurt he enters the dugout to a team of hysterical boys, all cheering for him.  He looks over to see if mom saw.  A little tear appears in the corner of her eye as she gives him thumbs up to tell him what a sweet hit it was!  A tear appears in the corner of her eye as she recounts the events of the night before on her blog.  How she loves these boys of hers.  How she loves to watch them play and how she never wants these days to end!  She is the luckiest mom ever!

(No better way to celebrate than a chocolate shake and fries.  "I wish Douglas could have been there," exclaims Stockton.  Me too!  He still got in on the celebration as we met him at the end of practice with a hot fudge sundae and fries.)

That was awesome! Oh how I miss the days of watching my girls play ball (yes, my girls played- not my boys)! Occasionally I'll drive past a random baseball game and I just want to stop the car and go watch it! I never have, but the urge is there. Perhaps I'll have to crash one of your boys' games to cure the itch. Great job Stockton! Oh, and it was really cool to hear him singing in church on Sunday (we were in the row in front of you last week). He has a very good voice.

By the way, my mom could not keep quiet at my games, and I could not keep quiet at my girls' games. Why is that? Makes me wonder how my girls will be at their kids' games!

Good blow-by-blow recap of the game. I was sitting on the edge of my couch, holding my laptop almost breaking out in a sweat wondering what was going to happen when the pitch came. Good thing I didn't start yelling my advice at him like you were, it would have started my family around me =) GO STOCKTON, GO, RUN, RUN!!!!

I've got a tear in the corner of my eye reading about how proud you are of your son. He is lucky to have such a supportive mom. What a great memory!

On Top of the World

I have never been a runner. I have grown up around runners. My dad has run 7 or 8 marathons. My mom has run 2. My husband ran one 7 years ago. I have always cheered from the sidelines and wondered why in the world anyone would EVER do something like that. It is just plain ridiculous. In my quest to get rid of the after math of 2 pregnancies in a years time I decided to step my workouts up a bit. I am a really good walker. I would much rather walk 4 miles than run 1 but I needed to burn more calories. So, running it was. I decided if I mostly walked with some intermittent running that would help. I started out running the downhill portions of my 2 mile loop. Pretty soon I would walk my 2 miles, put Mason down for a nap and run a few loops in the park. About a month ago, Russell challenged me to run the full 2 miles. He pushed the baby stroller while we ran. I was not very conversational , but I did it! I was so proud of myself. I incorporated that 2 mile run into my wor...

Old Enough For the Temple!

Mason and I have been looking forward to going to the temple for a long time.  It is one of my favorite places and there is nothing better than going with your kids.  Mason was ordained a Deacon on January 5th and received his temple recommend  so he could do baptisms and confirmations. We checked Mason out of school a little early on January 9th and went before lunch. We wanted to be together as a family so we invited Douglas and Daisha, Amelia and Grandma Orchard.  That made it special.  It was snowing when we came out so Grandma insisted on staying under the awning.  She didn't even know she was photo bombing! 😂 And to make it even more special, we took family names.  A temple sealer told me to think about families and bringing families to the temple.  I had never thought of that.  I always just grabbed whatever names were next in my card file but we purposefully put together 2 different families to baptize that da...

Arizona

Our love of baseball has taken us on some of our coolest family vacations.  Last week, Douglas' team played in the Triple Crown Spring Training tournament.  We decided to cash in our sky miles so all of us could go cheer him on.  A toddler on my lap for a 2 hour flight was a little more enticing than enduring a 12 hour roadtrip, each way.  Douglas wasn't too sad that he missed the team travel in a 16 passenger van.  Can you imagine it?  8 teenage boys...together...lauging....texting...stinking.  No thanks!  His coaches are saints! As seems to always be the case, travel day was hectic.  Watching our family go through airport security must be somewhat entertaining.  There are the Ipods, the belts, the shoes, the stroller, the laptop, the portable DVD player, the camera, the sippy cup, the blanket....followed by the howls of a little boy who got his fingers pinched when the stroller collapsed on him as we tried to contain him to...
