Last Week

I am not certain why but I really had a good week last week. Maybe I am finally accepting of the fact that at this time in my life my house will not be as clean as I would like and my scrapbooks will collect dust. I can't measure my day according to how much I have accomplished. Or, maybe it is because I ditched my normal walking partners, Kenny Chesney and Keith Urban for the Prophet and the 12 Apostles. I believe that had a lot to do with it. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE walking with Kenny and Keith but adding that extra spirituality to my day gave me a different perspective. Whatever the reason, here are some of the things that brought me a lot of joy this past week...

1. Stockton's basketball game. He has so much energy and is so good at it!

2. Watching Douglas take some extra swings just before his game on Friday so that he can hit like he knows he can. I LOVE watching him play baseball and I even enjoyed 3 really cold games this week. One of them was from the car but it was still a lot of fun. Baseball season is now officially over=(. 3. Dinner as a family in a private room at Johnny Carinos(the one with the cute little curtains!)where we talked about the game and enjoyed each other's company. The boys also learned that they love the Bowtie Festival as much or more than Fettuccine Alfredo.
4. Mason! I enjoy him every single day. The things I have gone through to get my family here has made me slow down and marvel in this sweet little boy. I really don't know how my heart could hold any more love for him. I did decide to put him in his back pack while I vacuumed and was so surprised to feel his little head flop over as he zonked out. How cute!

5. Watching baseball playoffs together as a family. We don't really have a favorite team but we are having fun watching.

6. A date with just Russell and me. So what that it was a work function and we got to go to the freezing cold REAL soccer game. It may not have been our first choice of things to do but we were together, I was wearing new jeans and lugging a purse instead of a diaper bag!

7. The way my boys come home from school excited to see their little brother. The way Mason responds as he realizes they are home.
8. Chocolate Fudge ice cream from Baskin Robbins. If you love dark chocolate, there is nothing better!

9. Sitting together at church. I looked over at a bench full of handsome boys. I remembered I was the only girl sitting there and didn't even care!

10. Watching Russell be such a great dad. He cheers, he coaches, he teaches, he counsels, he encourages, he kisses, he works, he loves. I couldn't find anyone better. Me and the boys are so lucky.
I am so blessed!

I love those pictures of Mason looking up at Douglas next to Stockton. And the one with Mason and Russ is so sweet. You have such a great family and we love you! And we are so lucky to be next door neighbors with you!

I love the one about the boys seeing Mason after school. That is something I miss -- now my kids are too old for that and they just fight. Enjoy it while it lasts!!

On Top of the World

I have never been a runner. I have grown up around runners. My dad has run 7 or 8 marathons. My mom has run 2. My husband ran one 7 years ago. I have always cheered from the sidelines and wondered why in the world anyone would EVER do something like that. It is just plain ridiculous. In my quest to get rid of the after math of 2 pregnancies in a years time I decided to step my workouts up a bit. I am a really good walker. I would much rather walk 4 miles than run 1 but I needed to burn more calories. So, running it was. I decided if I mostly walked with some intermittent running that would help. I started out running the downhill portions of my 2 mile loop. Pretty soon I would walk my 2 miles, put Mason down for a nap and run a few loops in the park. About a month ago, Russell challenged me to run the full 2 miles. He pushed the baby stroller while we ran. I was not very conversational , but I did it! I was so proud of myself. I incorporated that 2 mile run into my wor...

Family Pictures

These are the photos that lovingly adorn my entry way welcoming the world to our home. Stockton was 3, Douglas was 7 and Russell and I were somewhat younger than we are now. For pretty obvious reasons it was time to get a new picture on the wall.  I REALLY hate the whole process of family stress  pictures.  Everyone needs recent haircuts, clothes need to be clean and somewhat matching.  A location needs to be chosen, a poor sucker has to accompany us to snap the shots, no runny noses or cold sores can be present, Mason must be happy, Stockton must be agreeable and Douglas and Russell must be supportive.  So, over the weekend I forced my family to humor me and get this HUGE feat over with.  I am pretty happy with the results. Of course, for every good shot there are about 10 not so good ones!  You try and make a toddler hold still and smile nice! My nephew, Jordan, asked his mom why I got to be in charge.  I told him i...

Arizona

Our love of baseball has taken us on some of our coolest family vacations.  Last week, Douglas' team played in the Triple Crown Spring Training tournament.  We decided to cash in our sky miles so all of us could go cheer him on.  A toddler on my lap for a 2 hour flight was a little more enticing than enduring a 12 hour roadtrip, each way.  Douglas wasn't too sad that he missed the team travel in a 16 passenger van.  Can you imagine it?  8 teenage boys...together...lauging....texting...stinking.  No thanks!  His coaches are saints! As seems to always be the case, travel day was hectic.  Watching our family go through airport security must be somewhat entertaining.  There are the Ipods, the belts, the shoes, the stroller, the laptop, the portable DVD player, the camera, the sippy cup, the blanket....followed by the howls of a little boy who got his fingers pinched when the stroller collapsed on him as we tried to contain him to...
