Date Night Rut

Russell and I LOVE to go to dinner every Friday night. I especially love it because it means I don't have to cook and it gives me something to look forward to in my otherwise mundane routine. The sad thing is we are a little boring when it comes to our dining out choices. I don't really like Mexican (Cafe Rio doesn't count but I do feel it is more of  a lunch place:)), we don't do Chinese and we certainly don't do Thai. So, due to my lack of adventure, it seems we pick the same two restaurants over and over. It started out that we would go to Texas Roadhouse almost every Friday. The food is great, the prices are great and it is just a fun place to go. I started getting a little bored and we decided to compromise. We would trade off every other week picking which restaurant we would eat at. So, we would go to Roadhouse one Friday and Johnny Carinos the next only to repeat the cycle. I was pretty excited when we were planning to go to dinner with friends and I left it up to them to choose. This was our chance to really eat outside the box! Turns outs they liked the same places we did. We settled on Joe Morleys. 

It was one of my unwritten New Year's resolutions to be a little more creative when it came to our dining out options. We started the streak with Roadhouse, followed by Ruby Tuesdays, then Joe Morleys and last week we ended up at Marie Calendars. It wasn't completely by choice. We did try to hit Roadhouse in there twice but both times the wait was too long.  And, I had Buy One Get One Free meals at two of those establishments.  So, rather by choice or by chance, we have fulfilled one of my unofficial goals and really spiced up our Friday nights as of late!  We just may have to throw a trip to Sizzler in there!  Bon appetite!

Just reading about all those restaurants makes me hungry! We also did the Ruby Tuesday (buy one get one free). I had the Talapia it was good--but I know you don't like fish. Casey had a steak AND we shared a blondie for dessert. It was decently good food and a nice price. We are trying to come up with more date activity ideas ourselves.

We ALWAYS go to Sizzler. Finally, I asked Bud if we could go somewhere different...IHOP. I need help. Seriously!

I know the line is long, but Cheesecake Factory is awesome. We like Mimi's Cafe and Pei Wei (okay, it's asian, but try it -- it's the same as PF Chang's, only cheaper). TGI Fridays is a new hit lately, too. A really great place is Good Wood off 123rd and I-15. They have the best potato salad. It's a BBQ place -- you can share a meal and save money, too.

I agree with Aimee, Good Wood is a great place for dinner. It can be crowded at times though. There is a great pizza place downtown called Settabello. It's an authentic Italian place and you can get gellato!

I have never been a runner. I have grown up around runners. My dad has run 7 or 8 marathons. My mom has run 2. My husband ran one 7 years ago. I have always cheered from the sidelines and wondered why in the world anyone would EVER do something like that. It is just plain ridiculous. Old Enough For the Temple!

Mason and I have been looking forward to going to the temple for a long time.  It is one of my favorite places and there is nothing better than going with your kids.  Mason was ordained a Deacon on January 5th and received his temple recommend  so he could do baptisms and confirmations. We checked Mason out of school a little early on January 9th and went before lunch. We wanted to be together as a family so we invited Douglas and Daisha, Amelia and Grandma Orchard.  That made it special.  It was snowing when we came out so Grandma insisted on staying under the awning.  She didn't even know she was photo bombing! 😂 And to make it even more special, we took family names.  A temple sealer told me to think about families and bringing families to the temple.  I had never thought of that.  I always just grabbed whatever names were next in my card file but we purposefully put together 2 different families to baptize that da...

Arizona

Our love of baseball has taken us on some of our coolest family vacations.  Last week, Douglas' team played in the Triple Crown Spring Training tournament.  We decided to cash in our sky miles so all of us could go cheer him on.  A toddler on my lap for a 2 hour flight was a little more enticing than enduring a 12 hour roadtrip, each way.  Douglas wasn't too sad that he missed the team travel in a 16 passenger van.  Can you imagine it?  8 teenage boys...together...lauging....texting...stinking.  No thanks!  His coaches are saints!
