What was I thinking?

So I woke up this morning and realized that I didn't get a picture of Mason with Santa.  My boys hate sitting with Santa.  They are terrified of him.  So, it somehow slipped my mind that Mason may just tolerate him this year.  He is too young to know better and next year may be too late. Besides, I had a save $10 on your $10 purchase at JCPenny's.

I begged the boys to go.  I even offered to buy them 5 Guys Burgers and Fries.  I think the chance that I may make them stand by Santa was not worth the reward of lunch.  They stayed home.  I should have known when I got to the mall that I had made a big mistake.  There was not a parking spot to be found and I was about 4th in line for the next one to open.  I was thrilled when I finally got a spot about 5 rows farther than I would have liked but at least it was a spot.  I opened the back of the car to find that some really nice family member of mine decided to unload the stroller for me.  I am not sure when that happened but I was stuck without a stroller.  There was no way I was lugging that carseat through the mall so I immediately shifted my mind to plan B which was to rent a stroller.  No big deal.

We got inside, rented our little race car and Mason was thrilled.  He played with the steering wheel while I raced around.  I had really great intentions of getting a bunch of stuff done but the more I was at the mall, the more agitated I got.  It was crowded and the lines were long and the isles were narrow.  I spent my coupon at Penny's (I saved $10 but the stroller was $5) and decided to get in the Santa line. Now that was worth waiting for.  As I stood in a line that was longer than any wait I have had at Disneyland I realized we weren't moving too quickly.  I tried to look over everyone to see what the hold up was.  It seemed to me that Santa wasn't even there.  A lady got in line behind me and I asked her if she had noticed him there.  She said he was on a break and would be back at 1:45.  I pulled out my cell phone and found that it was 1:06.  I just couldn't do it.  Not only did I have to wait for Santa to return, I had to get through the line.  We headed for the car.  I didn't even take my stroller back for my deposit.  Some really lucky person is going to get my dollar. It would have been a fun day about 3 weeks ago but I just couldn't take it today.  I really don't know what I was thinking!

There's nothing worse than the mall on Dec. 23rd! And a 45 minute break?!?! C'mon now! I think Mason will forgive you that you don't have a picture with Santa, though :-).

I agree, Jenny, what were you thinking??

Forget Santa. That family pic on your blog is awesome. The real Santa would never go on a break that long. I applaud you for not exposing Mason to any imitations! ;)

On Top of the World

I have never been a runner. I have grown up around runners. My dad has run 7 or 8 marathons. My mom has run 2. My husband ran one 7 years ago. I have always cheered from the sidelines and wondered why in the world anyone would EVER do something like that. It is just plain ridiculous. In my quest to get rid of the after math of 2 pregnancies in a years time I decided to step my workouts up a bit. I am a really good walker. I would much rather walk 4 miles than run 1 but I needed to burn more calories. So, running it was. I decided if I mostly walked with some intermittent running that would help. I started out running the downhill portions of my 2 mile loop. Pretty soon I would walk my 2 miles, put Mason down for a nap and run a few loops in the park. About a month ago, Russell challenged me to run the full 2 miles. He pushed the baby stroller while we ran. I was not very conversational , but I did it! I was so proud of myself. I incorporated that 2 mile run into my wor...

Old Enough For the Temple!

Mason and I have been looking forward to going to the temple for a long time.  It is one of my favorite places and there is nothing better than going with your kids.  Mason was ordained a Deacon on January 5th and received his temple recommend  so he could do baptisms and confirmations. We checked Mason out of school a little early on January 9th and went before lunch. We wanted to be together as a family so we invited Douglas and Daisha, Amelia and Grandma Orchard.  That made it special.  It was snowing when we came out so Grandma insisted on staying under the awning.  She didn't even know she was photo bombing! 😂 And to make it even more special, we took family names.  A temple sealer told me to think about families and bringing families to the temple.  I had never thought of that.  I always just grabbed whatever names were next in my card file but we purposefully put together 2 different families to baptize that da...

Arizona

Our love of baseball has taken us on some of our coolest family vacations.  Last week, Douglas' team played in the Triple Crown Spring Training tournament.  We decided to cash in our sky miles so all of us could go cheer him on.  A toddler on my lap for a 2 hour flight was a little more enticing than enduring a 12 hour roadtrip, each way.  Douglas wasn't too sad that he missed the team travel in a 16 passenger van.  Can you imagine it?  8 teenage boys...together...lauging....texting...stinking.  No thanks!  His coaches are saints! As seems to always be the case, travel day was hectic.  Watching our family go through airport security must be somewhat entertaining.  There are the Ipods, the belts, the shoes, the stroller, the laptop, the portable DVD player, the camera, the sippy cup, the blanket....followed by the howls of a little boy who got his fingers pinched when the stroller collapsed on him as we tried to contain him to...
