Over the past 2 seasons I have written a few post about our baseball adventures. Here are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 such stories but this is the best one yet!
This past weekend both boys played in the Spring Fling Slugfest tournament here in the valley. Once again, I printed the schedules and viewed them side by side. For some reason, the league just doesn't see the need to schedule my two boys to where their games do not conflict with each other. I HATE missing games. Russell and I made our plan of who was going where when, who got to take Mason and our adventure began!
Thursday: Douglas played in Saratoga Springs at 3:00, had to be there at 2:00 and was checked out of school at 1:30. Stockton got dropped off from school, got himself into uniform, to piano lessons and a snack and was picked up for his 4:30 warmups in South Jordan. I got Mason while Russell helped coach. Douglas' game was a bit of a yawner but he hit really well. Final score, 20-0. Douglas headed home with a friend so he could make it to Young Men's and the rest of us headed to Stockton's 5:30 game. Russell got Mason and Stockton hit super well also. Final score, 8-6.
Friday: Stockton played at 3:30 & 5:30 in South Jordan. I was at both of his games accompanied by Mason. Russell was able to take over Mason duty for the second game. He won them both 17-1 & 10-2. Douglas played in Herriman at 3:00 & 7:00. Russell went to his first game and I went to the second while Mason went home for some much needed R&R. Douglas didn't hit as well as the previous day and insisted it was because I was there instead of his dad! Whatever! Two more victories 11-2 & 10-1. Our Friday night date consisted of soggy sandwiches (never get vinegar on a Subway sandwich you are going to put in the cooler for 2 hours before consuming) while we sat next to each other cheering Stockton on!
Saturday: Both of the boys entered championship day as the #1 seed based on record and runs scored vs runs allowed. This is do or die day. You win and you keep playing, you lose and you go home. I decided to get a sitter for the first game so Mason could get a good nap in. He would need it for the 5 games we would potentially play. I sat in absolute peace and serenity while Russell and I watched Stockton's semi-final game at 11:30. Russell left at 12:30 to watch Douglas play at Cate Field (SLCC on 90th and Bangerter) at 1:00. Both boys won that first game! Neither had their best hitting day but what they didn't bring to the offense they made up for with their defense. Stockton played short stop and Douglas played first and second base, outfield and catch. Stockton and I grabbed a little lunch during his break, I dropped him off at his warm ups and went home to retrieve Mason for the remainder of the day. Douglas' 2nd game was at 3:00 and Stockton played for the championship at 3:30. Both of them had tough battles. Douglas beat the Marshalls to move on to the championship game and Stockton beat the Sidewinders after 7 innings for the championship. Russell was able to make it to the second half of that game.

Following Stockton's very satisfying and sweet victory we headed to Cate field with our Saturday night dinner, Little Ceasars pizza. Douglas' game was to begin at 7:00 but the game ahead of us, which determined our opponent, went 4 extra innings. At about 8:15 I started to wonder how in the world Mason would make it through 7 innings in the dark and cold. Luckily, we were 10 minutes away from home. I called another babysitter, put him to bed and enjoyed another blissful championship game. It was cold, but fun! The game was tied going into the 7th inning. We held the Cannons and were able to score a walkoff steal at home on a past ball. What a game! It ended at about 11:00 pm. What better way to top off an awesome day of baseball than 11:30 pm shakes at In N Out?
So, in summary, we missed 1.5 school classes, played 11 games, ate soggy Subway and cold Ceasars, got cankers from the pickle sunflower seeds, forked out $27 in babysitting, sat in the wind and cold, field hopped and baby swapped all to watch our two oldest boys do what they love to do. If your head is spinning just reading this, try living it! I would do it all again in a heartbeat! Three days of baseball, two champions and one SUPER happy mom! (Dad was pretty happy too but I am the one writing the story!)

BTW, you paid Aubree WAY more than you needed to. Seriously, $2/hour is more than enough for a 12 year old!!
